After Kofi Kingston took out Sheamus at ringside, Big E hit Barrett with the Big Ending for the win. Barrett had Big E pinned at one point, but the ref was distracted by Xavier Woods and didn’t notice. In a match that featured two heel teams, The New Day were treated like babyfaces and cheered loudly. It essentially turned into a singles match between Lesnar and Harper, and Lesnar used seven German supplexes and an F5 to get the win. Maybe this is their proving ground and falling short of a victory will convince them to continue their singles runs and go for the Intercontinental or United States Championships, or enter the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.Just like they’ve done before, WWE teased a WWE World Heavyweight Championship win for Ambrose.
It’ll be interesting to see what WWE has planned for WrestleMania, as I can’t imagine AJ Styles and Chris Jericho will simply be involved in a tag title situation, so I’m expecting to see The New Day retain somehow by cheating or for Jericho to turn on Styles. Clearly, all five of these men were meant to be included into the event in some fashion beforehand, and it seems as though the only difference is that WWE decided to tag Styles and Jericho up. Two of the things originally scheduled for March to WrestleMania were a Highlight Reel with The New Day and a generic message about AJ Styles making his WWE debut in Toronto. Yes, Y2AJ will be getting a title shot on the next edition of Monday Night Raw, but how often do matches like that end with disqualifications? So often that it seems like a foregone conclusion that WWE will use that as a means to stall and introduce a rematch to take place at this event, which will be the bigger priority to them.
